Selection is the process of identifying and hiring employees for a particular position. It is usually done by businesses through a screening process such as the application, interview, or reference checks.

Selection is the process of choosing one individual to fill a particular job or position over another. Pure selection is the result of a contest where candidates compete for the job. Selection can also be used as a process where individuals with similar abilities, skills and qualifications are grouped together based on how they stack up against each other.
