Job analysis is done by collecting data from the organisation regarding the job and analysing the factors influencing them. these factors can be analysed using different methods. Usually, the most common methods for job analysis are direct methods like observing a group of workers and recording their performance, interview method, conducting surveys among the employee etc.
The main types of job analysis are observation method, interview method, job performance, work sampling, structured questionnaire, critical incident method and dairy method. In all the types the information is collected either from all the employees or a group of employees representing the whole. A suitable type of analysis is conducted considering the requirements of the job.
Job analysis can be done task-based or skills-based. The task-based analysis is the most common type in which where task statements are provided to the employees and analyses are done based on the information collected. Skill-based analyses are conducted to know the competencies of the employees. This type is usually used at high-end levels of the organisation to make sure that the main objective of the job is fulfilled.
